Two Double Oak Framed Garages

Overview

Grade II listed Old Springs Hall is situated in the heart of the open countryside, surrounded by scenic landscapes that enhance its beauty and majesty. The hall, with its commanding presence, captivates all who have the pleasure of seeing and visiting it. Its architectural grandeur and historical significance make it a beloved landmark in the region.

In a bid to enhance the estate further, the owners have embarked on an ambitious project. They have decided to erect two stunning Oak framed garages, which will not only provide functional benefits but also complement the traditional aesthetic of the property. In addition, they plan to rebuild the original Stone Gate Lodge, restoring it to its former glory and preserving a piece of the hall's rich history. These enhancements aim to blend seamlessly with the existing structures, ensuring that Old Springs Hall continues to be a cherished and admired residence for many years to come.

Challenge

The owners intend to run the two projects simultaneously, recognizing that each project presents its own unique set of timing, cost, and quality challenges. The first project involves the construction of two oak-framed garages, which will necessitate precise craftsmanship and adherence to specific design standards. The second project focuses on the reconstruction of the original stone lodge, a task that demands meticulous attention to detail to ensure historical accuracy and compliance with preservation guidelines.

Both projects require the expertise of specialist trades to meet the stringent conditions set forth by planning authorities. For the oak garages, skilled carpenters with experience in traditional timber framing techniques will be essential to achieve the desired aesthetic and structural integrity. Meanwhile, the stone lodge reconstruction will call for stonemasons who are proficient in working with heritage materials and methods to faithfully restore the building to its former state.

By undertaking these projects concurrently, the owners aim to enhance the estate's functionality and historical charm, all while navigating the complexities associated with timing, budgeting, and quality control. Their commitment to maintaining high standards and respecting the planning requirements underscores their dedication to preserving the estate's legacy for future generations.

Solution

We were appointed by the owners as project managers to oversee and coordinate the various contractors involved in the two concurrent schemes. Our role involves ensuring seamless collaboration among the different teams working on both projects.

The first scheme, which entails the construction of the oak-framed garages, requires us to liaise with skilled carpenters and timber specialists. The second scheme, focused on the reconstruction of the original stone lodge, involves coordinating efforts with expert stonemasons and heritage restoration professionals.

Our responsibilities include scheduling, budgeting, and quality control for both projects, ensuring that all work is performed to the highest standards and in accordance with planning regulations. By effectively managing these diverse contractors, we aim to ensure the successful and timely completion of both projects, thereby fulfilling the owners' vision for their estate.
